Funding

The International Center is a non-profit organization that relies on support from individuals, corporate sponsorships, and grants to fund its programs and services. Lilly Endowment, Inc. is the organization’s most significant contributor, and matches any contribution dollar for dollar up to $200,000. In order to receive the matching grant of $200,000, The Center must raise the same amount through private contributors.

Two–thirds of the organization’s funding is garnered through support from The International Center’s contributors. One-third of The International Center’s revenues are through fee-for service programs provided by The Center.

In 2009, The International Center redesignated its nonprofit tax status to 509(a)(3) under IRS tax code and enlisted four supported organizations: Arts Council of Indianapolis, Butler University, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis and Greater Indianapolis Chamber of Commerce.
