  • Originally formed during U.S. Senator Richard Lugar’s tenure as Mayor of Indianapolis, to provide interpreters and translators for the NATO Conference of Mayors held in Indianapolis in 1972. Officially established in 1973.
  • Mission is to strengthen Indiana’s global connections through partnerships with businesses, organizations, educational institutions and government agencies
  • Not-for-profit organization funded by grants and donations
  • Indiana affiliate for the National Council for International Visitors (NCIV)
  • Publishes The International Guide to Central Indiana
  • Currently incubating the Asian Learning Center of Indiana, a resource for Hoosiers to learn about Asia
  • Employs 19 staff – 15 were born or have lived abroad; speak more than 15 languages collectively
  • Provide protocol support, global competency training and relocation services for international employees

2009-2010 achievements

  • Worked with 168 families relocating to Indiana from more than 25 countries
  • Hosted 304 visitors from 85 countries through the U.S. State Department’s International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP)
  • Presented 35 cultural awareness training sessions to businesses, agencies and non-profit organizations
  • Provided orientation programs for international employees from more than 20 countries
  • Identified 350 individuals in the community as professional resource volunteers for IVLP
  • Reached over 2,000 elementary and secondary students through educational programs about the path to citizenship and the naturalization process
  • Recognized Governor Mitch Daniels as the 2010 International Citizen of the Year
