Protocol

Protocol Services

  • Protocol is the practice of using internationally recognized procedures to create a welcoming environment for people conducting business and diplomacy
  • Office of Protocol provides country/cultural briefings and booklets, presentations and training, events planning and management
  • Serves as the primary Indiana contact for municipal, state and federal government agencies on diplomatic matters
  • The Center’s certified Protocol staff is trained by The Lett Group, a nationally recognized protocol training company
  • Maintains The International Center’s international flag collection, provided to serve local organizations and companies during their meetings and conferences
  • Office of Protocol is sponsored by Duke Energy

Global Competency Training

  • Customized training programs to help companies, organizations and agencies interact more comfortably and productively with people from other cultures
  • Explore how culture affects business practices, particularly in regard to communication, management and leadership styles
  • Used to prepare executives for meetings abroad or to host visitors from another culture, or to help companies and organizations with multinational workforces interact more effectively

Relocation

Destination Services

  • Work directly with expatriate employees and their accompanying spouses, providing individualized person-to-person support for short- and long-term assignees
  • Programs tailored to address critical issues and concerns at each juncture of their relocation – before departure, through the search for a new place to live, to “settling in” services that help navigate the sometimes confusing world of opening bank accounts, setting up utilities, and learning about the resources available in a foreign city

Orientation Programs

  • Orientation Program for International Employees (OPIE) – single-session program with city tour and professional networking opportunities
  • Community Orientation Program for Expatriates (COPE) – 8-week seminar for accompanying spouses/partners introduces important aspects of American culture

  • Comprehensive resource guide for international newcomers living in Indiana 

International Visitor Programs

International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP)

  • An initiative of the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs
  • Brings foreign nationals to the United States every year with a mission to promote democracy and worldwide peace through improved cross-cultural understanding
  • Indiana affiliate for the National Council for International Visitors (NCIV)

Professional Resources

  • Connects international visitors to an extensive network of 350 local professionals from business, industry, education and government who provide visitor programming and home hospitality

Dinner Hospitality

  • Offers international visitors the opportunity to spend time with volunteer hosts for home-based hospitality (e.g. family dinners, community events)
  • Pairs volunteers and visitors who share common interests – the hosts have lived in the visitor’s country, speak a common language, have mutual professional interests, or are interested in the same kind of cultural activities

Asian Learning Center of Indiana

  • Incubated program under development through The International Center
  • Resource clearinghouse for educational support on Asian history, culture, emerging business opportunities
  • Supported by Indiana community organizations, businesses, government offices and educational institutions

Naturalization

  • Presents American flags to naturalized citizens
  • Co-host naturalization workshops with the United States Citizenship & Immigration Services (USCIS)
