Office of Protocol Sponsored by Duke Energy

Creating the welcoming environments that lead to lasting relationships

Protocol is the practice of using internationally recognized procedures to create a welcoming environment for people conducting business and diplomacy. With the proper protocol in place, participants can easily build relationships without confusion or distraction…without wondering who does what, when. Protocol transforms an unfamiliar environment into a comfortable climate in which to conduct business.

The International Center’s Office of Protocol Sponsored by Duke Energy helps companies and organizations prepare to visit or host international colleagues or delegations. Protocol services include country/cultural briefings and booklets, presentations and training, as well as events planning and management. The Office of Protocol organizes culturally appropriate meetings, luncheons, dinners and receptions, and offers guidance on everything from travel itineraries, to signing ceremonies, to photo opportunities and gift giving. The Center’s certified Protocol staff is trained by The Lett Group, a nationally recognized protocol training company.

The Center regularly serves as the primary Indiana contact for municipal, state and federal government agencies on diplomatic matters. In 2010, the Office of Protocol hosted Assistant Secretary of State for Public Affairs Philip J. Crowley’s speaking event, offered pre-departure training for Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman in preparation of her trip to China, and arranged Consul General of France in Chicago Graham PAUL’s visit to Indianapolis and his meetings with Mayor Greg Ballard and other local community leaders.

The Office of Protocol also houses The Center’s collection of international flags, provided to serve local organizations and companies during their meetings and conferences.

“Increasingly, Indianapolis’s success in attracting and retaining business depends upon recognizing, understanding and reacting constructively to many different people and cultures within our global economy, and the Office of Protocol will bring a key advantage to economic development efforts in the city.”
