Since 1985, The International Center has honored individuals who have made outstanding contributions to Indiana and the world in the fields of business, culture, education, government, medicine, media, research, sports or community service.
The Board of Directors of The International Center selected Pacers Sports & Entertainment as
recipient of the 2017 International Citizen of the Year Award, which honors those who have made outstanding contributions to the globalization of Indiana.
Pacers Sports & Entertainment, which encompasses the Indiana Pacers, Indiana Fever, the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, management of Bankers Life Fieldhouse, and the Pacers Foundation, received the award from The International Center at a special dinner and program on Sept. 13, 2017 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom in downtown Indianapolis. International Center Board members Julie Griffith, vice president for public affairs at Purdue University, and Brian Gildea, economic development manager for Vectren Corporation, served as co-chairs for the event.

The International Citizen of the Year Award was established in 1985 to honor individuals who have made an outstanding contribution to the globalization of Indiana in business, culture, education, government, medicine, research, media, sports or community service.
Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie, who was honored as the 2016 International Citizen of the Year by The International Center on September 20, 2016. Dr. McRobbie was selected by The International Center’s Board of Directors.
James T. Morris, vice chairman of Pacers Sports and Entertainment, served as an Honorary Co-Chair. Marsha Stone, Senior Director of Enterprise Development for the Indianapolis International Airport, and Amy Conrad Warner, Vice Chancellor of the Office of Community Engagement for Indiana University – Purdue University Indianapolis, served as Event Co-Chairs.

Dr. John C. Lechleiter, Chairman, President, and CEO of Eli Lilly and Company, was selected as the 2015 International Citizen of the Year. Dr. Lechleiter and his accomplishments were recognized and honored at a tribute dinner on October 6, 2015 at the Indiana Roof Ballroom.
